Participants in this workshop are neighbors interested in preparing natural medicines and traditional remedies to treat some common health problems. Sessions are designed and taught by Sami Esfahani, founder of the Ambrosía Apoteca Herbolaria Project. During the sessions, participants concentrate on using plants and herbs that are frequently used in homemade food. Participants also exchange their empirical knowledge about the curative properties of ingredients in traditional Mexican cuisine, such as garlic, pigweed, seeds, chili, and honey. They then prepare different syrups, ointments, dyes, infusions, balms, and poultices.
