Coordinated by horticulturist Mauricio Badillo, this workshop was focused on theoretical and practical matters to address the skills and knowledge required to plant, grow, and harvest edible plants during the winter. Guest speakers gave intensive lessons on practical issues about urban gardening, such as composting, herbal medicine, and preparation of DIY fertilizers. The main objective was to have participants implement the required techniques to manage their own urban gardens. To this end, different topics were reviewed, including germination, different types of vegetable reproduction, crop rotation and placement of vegetables, as well as methods of pest control and fertilizing at home. In addition to practical learning, guest experts nurtured discussions and critical thinking about everyday environmental problems derived from industrialization.
