Barut holds a bachelor’s degree in Ethnology from the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH) and a master’s in Social Anthropology from the Center of Investigation and Higher Education in Social Anthropology (CIESAS, Gulf Unit). His areas of investigation cover disability (history, public policy and processes of stigmatization), as well as Mexican cinema (representations, emotions and stereotypes). He has participated in national dialogues and competitions about emotions and disability in cinema, as well as forums about religion in film. Cruz facilitated the second contextual study: Mercado La Dalia (La Dalia Market).
