Itala studied philosophy (1988-1992) at UNAM. She was director of the Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros (2001-2007). Since 2004, she has been a member of Curare, a critical space for the arts. Her essays have been published in magazines such as Luna Cornea, Art Nexus, Exit, The Tempest, as well as multiple catalogs and newspapers such as Reforma and La Jornada. She was director of the El futuro más acá (2003), the first Mexican science fiction cinema festival, which has participated in the Fantastic Film Festival of Bilbao (2005), the Festival of Biarritz (2004) and Rio Festival in Brazil (2006). From 2007 to 2011, she was director of the Carrillo Gil Art Museum (MACG), where she promoted a training program for emerging art produced in conjunction with the BBVA Bancomer Foundation. In 2010-2011, she was curator of The Landscape Siqueiros show, it was presented in MOLAA Los Angeles (USA) and MACG (Mexico, DF). She is currently director of the Center of the Image in Mexico City.
